Stallions

I spent many years studying pedigrees and covered many miles looking at Morgans in the flesh.  I have always love, appreciated and respected history.  Because of that, when I was refining my breeding business 25 years ago, I thought it was in my best interest to learn all I could from the breeders who came before me.  The horsemen with a passion for the breed that had actually seen the horses of old.  The horsemen who knew the stories, knew the horses and knew the people behind them.  My mentors have all passed away, but I am carrying on with the plans we worked on for years on how to continue forward with the bloodlines we valued.  I was fortunate to find mentors who valued the finer qualities of conformation and ability like I did.  I'm thankful I had the wherewithal to listen with an open mind and take as many notes as possible.  To develop spreadsheets and skills as well as an eye to discern the finer details of a horse was all part of the training.  From this, comes the herd we have today and the prospects we are developing for the future.

Westwind Montana Sky

(Sweets Baybarry x Westwind Kassie)

2020 Bay Stallion  ~  100% Foundation Bloodlines

15.1H, coat color tested EEAA, N/N for PSSM1, C/C for gait

Sweets Baybarry is one of the horses we wanted to bring in as an outcross for our mares that carried Whippoorwill bloodlines.  Baybarry was a ranch horse in his younger days proving his worth as a using horse.  We bought the Sweets Baybarry son, Westwind Montana Sky as a weanling from Westwind Morgans.  Sky is a handsome bay stallion, currently 15.1H, color tested EEAA, out of Westwind Kassie.  This stallion is one of the kindest, most gentle stallions we have had the pleasure to stand at stud.  He has 3 good gaits and one of the nicest lopes I have found on a Morgan.  We are happy to see he is passing these traits on to his offspring.  Sky is negative (CC) for gait and negative (NN) for PSSM1.  We usually have offspring from Sky for sale. We stand Westwind Montana Sky to outside mares via live cover. Since Sky is homozygous black and homozygous agouti, he can only produce bay or buckskin offspring no matter the color of the mare.

Mossrose Midnight Moon

(Whippoorwill Newmoon x LBF Cajun Queen)

2021 Black Stallion  ~  100% Foundation Bloodlines

15.1H, coat color tested Eeaa, N/N for PSSM1, C/C for gait

Mossrose Midnight Moon (Mac) is the last foal by Whippoorwill Newmoon.  Newmoon was bred to LBF Cajun Queen (owned by Little Brook Farm Morgans) in the spring of 2020. She was 18 years old and Newmoon was 32.  We lost Newmoon that fall.  What a blessing to have one final gift from Newmoon the following spring of 2021 with this spectacular colt!  Mac is a black stallion, color tested Eeaa and currently 15.1H tall. I'm not exactly sure what the future holds for this stallion yet, but he would be a natural cross back on future fillies by Westwind Montana Sky.  Until then, we are enjoying his stunning presence and exciting movement.  He will be brought along like our others with age appropriate training.  He is full of life, brilliance and personality!  Mac has 3 correct gaits, an amazing canter and a noticeably uphill build.  Mac has the sense of humor and mannerisms that daily remind us of his sire.  Mac's sire, Whippoorwill Newmoon, was ridden dressage, did well as a driving horse, but most notably was a multi champion reiner in California and at the Morgan Grand National. Mac's dam, LBF Cajun Queen, was ridden dressage and has logged many many miles on the trail placing third in a 30 mile CTR. Mac should have no problem stepping up for competitions in most any discipline. Mac is negative (CC) for gait and negative (NN) for PSSM1.  We are standing Mac to outside mares via live cover.  His first foals are expected to hit the ground in May of 2027.
